Whew! A whole week got away from me. I am a little behind on the Accidental Advent, but I will have time this week to catch up. ^^;;

(Sunday's belated post)

Yesterday was our annual family expedition to Eastern Market in Detroit, so my fridge is filled with vegetables. At some point shortly, all stir-fry all the time, lol. I am very excited. I didn't mean to buy as much as I did, but everything looked so good!

It's Tokyo Game Show week and as usual, I took a couple of days off for it. Honestly, the official streaming schedule is pretty anemic. There are two or three things I might watch, and one S-E stream. I'm not sure who else might have streaming presentations that I want to watch...

(but since it's my ~annual 'clean the utility room' weekend, I'll also be doing that!)

I finished my [community profile] iddyiddybangbang project and will be posting it later in the week! I took one of the amnesty dates both because I was So Busy last weekend/week and because I just wasn't done. But now I am (and I suppose if I'd not been so busy I might've finished then?) and I've also leveled up my time management and project management skills.

Yeah, mostly I'm just thrilled to have the Project done!

With Harsh Light at 81,318 words, and Gentle Dark at 91,740, I have two complete drafts in front of me.

I've been working on these two FFXIV fics for... something like a year and a half, I guess? Because all of my fic for Ariane (my player character) lives in one scrivener project and I've had that going basically since I created her, I don't have a file creation date to go on. I was going through an old journal recently and thought I found the page where I first jotted down the concept for this fic project, but that was only a little over a year ago and the word count spreadsheet I keep doesn't check out with that. Digging up some tumblr posts tells me I was probably first digging into it seriously in April 2024, and for that I think the word count from my spreadsheets checks out. Old dreamwidth entries tells me I had the concept in mind least as far back as December 2023 and was probably already jotting down some snippets as they came to me. April 2024 was also when I finished Endwalker, so it tracks that that's when I'd start working seriously on longfic.

Safe to say, I have been working on this for a lot of the past two years.

There is revising and editing and beta reading and more editing still to do, but it's WRITTEN! It's written!

Sad though they may be, I've enjoyed writing these so much. I'm really excited to share them when they're ready.

A collection of Final Fantasy VII fic recs from the past couple of months of reading, listed in chronological order of when I read them. Mostly because that was easiest for me, though I suppose it has the added side-effect that you could chart my descent into madness progression through different character relationships and concepts.

Once again, I originally intended to include “why I’m reccing this” commentary for all of these fics, and once again, I am accepting that I will never finish this recs list if I actually try to do so, so here we are. If you’re curious about any one fic in particular, ask and I’ll pull together some words! Otherwise, I am once again practicing “perfect is the enemy of the good” and sharing this as it is.

One of my original plans for Saturday fell through; it wasn't anything I was particularly looking forward to though. (Just adulting.) So the day was lunch with M and some planning for the future.

I found info for a scale modelers club down in the City, but they meet Weds evenings. I have a lot of vacation time to blow, so taking a day off isn't a problem to feel them out, but I can't do this month because there's just way too much going on. So maybe next month? They also have an annual model show with tables available and I know M has kits to sell (I don't, but we're in this together); it's in April so there's time to figure this all out.

Started working on a HG Nu Gundam, which I probably picked up more than a decade ago. I mean, also working on my other Project, but there are physical limits to how much of that I can work on. (i.e. I need more sticks with roach-clips on the ends!)

Day One of Fun

Took off around 6am to drive across the state for the last stop of the Gundam Base Mobile USA Tour. I mostly went for *The Experience* and it was a pretty good one!

We ended up getting there with plenty of time to get food and chat with other folks waiting. After a point, the shopping line was split between folks who'd gotten the (free) VIP tickets and everyone else and because I had tickets, we ended up literally first. ^^;; (The tickets were kind of a fiasco - originally only ~Saturday afternoon needed the free tickets for crowd control and then at some point partway through the tour suddenly every time-slot had ticketing. I only knew this because someone in a little gunpla server I'm in mentioned the change and I was like 'wait what' and went and literally snagged a pair two minutes later. However, they were basically zippering the two lines anyway so the handful of people who'd gotten there before us got in at about the same time anyway.)

We were warned that their last stop had wiped a lot of inventory, and yeah, the selection was a little sparse but I still filled a bag and managed a couple kits I'd had recommended and a couple I'd missed during the online drops.

Tossed all that in the car and came back to build our little event model kits and drink more water. They were very good about handing out water left and right. Took a few pictures and then headed over to the host shop, which is less a general hobby shop and more a game store. Lots of tabletop and card games, along with an entire wall of gunpla that was getting swarmed by locusts. (The shop had plenty of employees! It's just difficult to plan for hundreds of voracious nerds.)

I bought way too many kits, and two sets of dice, and shoved everything in the car and we headed home.

Drive overall okay both ways, aside from a few small moments. Car itself did great. One miserable patch of construction both ways. Other side of the state is quite beautiful; there were a few moments when cresting small hills that the view was absolutely stunning.

I really shouldn't be awake right now but here I am. ^^;;
